Data transfer rate conversion is essential for understanding internet speeds, download times, and network performance. The key distinction is between bits (lowercase b) and Bytes (uppercase B)—there are 8 bits in 1 Byte.
Internet service providers advertise speeds in megabits per second (Mbps), while download managers often show speeds in megabytes per second (MB/s). This 8:1 ratio causes frequent confusion.
